Jill Leman is a fabulous artist who works from her studio in Islington , North London. We have been fans of her work for sometime and have often attended the same events but never seemed to collide. This we both agreed to change , when early in 2016 I had a painting on loan to Central St Martins for an exhibition of female illustrators and had cause to drive through Islington. That was the excuse needed and I spent a wonderful couple of hours with both Jill and her husband , the artist, Martin Leman.
What we like about Jill Leman's work is the colour , freshness and decorative quality that means that her work looks fantastic in any home.
Jill Leman has exhibited at The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and The Ruth Borchard Self Portrait Exhibition. She is the Vice President of the RWS and a member of Royal Society of British Artists. So let's be honest here , she is a well established artist who is highly regarded by her peers and the public alike.
It was no surprise to me to learn , when chatting to Jill , that she was trained by two of our all time favourite artists ,John Nash and Edward Bawden. Indeed she spent two years at Colchester School of Art in the 60's where John Nash taught plant drawing and Edward Bawden printmaking. This was followed by three years at The Central School of Art & Design,London. After several years as an 'in house' designer for various publishers Jill became freelance and worked on many books with her husband Martin.
We have a number of pantings available and are pleased to now be representing Jill Leman here at Blondes Fine Art .
