Mary FOX (1922-2005)

Mary Fox was born on 4th October 1922 in Atherstone , Warwickshire. She studied at Leicester School of Art and later at the Central School of Art and Design in London where she concentrated on Lithography.

During her career she worked in Hampstead , London where she was an active member of the Hampstead Arts Council and became great friends with Zdzislaw Ruszkowski. She loved working in her ‘Chapel Studio’ near Southwold in Suffolk and later between 1990 and 1995 she made long visits to Vaison-la-Romaine in Provence where a new colourful palette exploded into her work.

Mary Fox’s work is held in many private collections as well as V&A museum , it was purchased by many Educational authority collections in the 1950/60’s and can be found in Beercroft Gallery, Nuneaton Art Gallery and Portsmouth Art Gallery to name a few.

In her later years Mary suffered with dementia and died on February 24th 2005 .
