Mary Fedden Biography
Mary Fedden was born in Bristol and studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. Her career was interrupted by the Second World War, during which she served in the Women’s Voluntary Service and later worked as a driver for NAAFI. After the war, she resumed painting and gradually developed the distinctive style for which she is now known. She later became the first female tutor of painting at the Royal College of Art, where she influenced a generation of younger artists. Fedden was married to the artist Julian Trevelyan, and the two shared a creative partnership that shaped their artistic development.
